Goals
CESMEE members will work collaboratively and leverage resources to:
- Conduct theoretically and practically important research and development programs in STEM education that attract significant external funding.
- Enhance visibility of STEM education efforts at Iowa State University through increased publications in research and practitioner journals, increased participation in state, national, and international conferences, development of a WEB page and newsletter.
- Work with the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) and the Center for Technology in Learning and Teaching (CTLT) to improve STEM education practices at ISU.
- Achieve national distinction through research, scholarship and teacher education that bridges practice and theory in STEM education.
- Coordinate efforts among STEM education researchers at ISU, and build cooperative relationships with such research colleagues statewide, nationally and internationally.
- Increase the diversity of students attracted to STEM education careers by:
- Designing, developing and coordinating in-service professional development programs and activities for PK-14 teachers in STEM related subjects.
- Designing, developing and coordinating exemplary pre-service programs in PK-14 STEM related education.
- Providing research-based consultation and services related to PK-14 STEM education to schools, professional associations, and private agencies.
- Enhance effective collaboration and research among STEM teachers, teacher educators, researchers, and practitioners that promotes effective STEM teaching and learning at all levels.
- Increase the number of highly effective math and science teachers in Iowa.
- Increase the number of PK-14 math and science teachers prepared at Iowa State University.
- Improve the retention rate of highly effective math and science teachers in Iowa.
- Build on existing efforts to promote international cooperation in STEM education and recognition of Iowa State University as an emerging leader in STEM education.
