Pre-Service Teacher Laboratory Experience Program
This program places students in paid internships in Science, Math, and Engineering, and Technology with a variety of different faculty members at Iowa State University. Program participants have decided on a teaching Pre-Service Teacher Laboratory Experience Program
This program places students in paid internships in Science, Math, and Engineering, and Technology with a variety of different faculty members at Iowa State University. Program participants have decided on a teaching career in one of these disciplines. Students work with scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories' research programs. They also have the mentorship of a Master Teacher who is currently working in K-12 education as a teacher and is familiar with work in a research environment.
This program is a new opportunity for preservice teachers at Iowa State University. Students will be selected for participation during spring semester of 2009; participating students will be invited to participate in a similar program available full-time during the summer of 2009. Students are invited to apply immediately and will be required to participate for the full term of the program.
What is Expected of Each Participant
Every participant is required to:
• Complete the full semester long program
• Spend 10-12 hours per week in laboratory and/or related research activities - pay rate is $10 per hour
• Participate in weekly seminars with a master teacher working in a secondary school classroom
• Complete entrance and exit surveys on the EDULINK web-site
• Behave in a responsible and professional manner
• Submit a complete copy of a Research Paper or "Power Point" presentation (depending on the individual laboratory's policy)
• Submit an Education Module
• Submit an abstract of their research
• Attend all scheduled events including lectures, tours and group activities arranged by the sponsoring research team
Participants should expect to spend 10 -12 hours per week in activities and/or research related to their internships.
Note: Individuals who participate during spring semester will be given preference for summer placements in the same laboratories or at a variety of locations around the U.S.
